The Niagara Series
The all-time series between the Orange and the Purple Eagles is tied, 5-5-2. Niagara evened the series after sweeping SU, 1-0 and 3-1, earlier this season. During the 2009-10 season, the two teams split, 2-2, in the regular-season and Syracuse knocked off Niagara in the semifinals of the CHA Tournament, 5-3.
Sizing up the Competition
Niagara has not lost a game since it was shutout by Mercyhurst, 3-0, on Jan. 30. The Purple Eagles are 3-0-1 since then, including a sweep of Wayne State last weekend, 1-0 and 4-2. The Purple Eagles are led by freshman forward Jessica Hitchcock who has a team-best 15 points on five goals and 10 assists. Sophomore forward Jenna Hendrikx is leading the team with 10 goals this season. Senior goaltender Jenni Bauer is second in the CHA in both goals-against-average at 2.30 and a saves percentage with .920. Bauer has recorded four shutouts this season. Niagara is averaging 1.53 goals per game, while giving up 2.33 to its opponents.
A Look at the Orange Seniors
Cockell, Marty and Rising have combined for 263 points during their careers. Marty and Rising are two of the seven members from the original Orange roster that started the program in 2008. Marty has recorded seven goals and eight assists this season, while Rising has tallied 10 goals and 16 assists. Cockell joined the squad this season after spending three seasons at Mercyhurst. As a defender she is third on the team in scoring with 10 goals and 12 assists.
