Boston Halts SU Win Streak at Six

BOSTON – Freshman Maddie Kobelt and junior co-captain Emily Harman provided the only Orange victories Sunday as the Syracuse tennis team lost, 6-1, to Boston University at the Track and Tennis Center. The loss snapped a six-match win streak for the Orange and was the team's first since Jan. 29.
Kobelt earned two victories against the Terriers, the first being with doubles her doubles partner, Harman, to start the match. The duo teamed up at the No. 1 singles spot and defeated their Terrier opponents, 8-5. Syracuse's No. 2 and No. 3 doubles teams lost their matches, 4-8, and 2-8, respectively, against their BU competition.
Kobelt then returned to the court at the No. 3 singles spot to take on BU's Monika Mical. The first set resulted in a 7-6 victory for Kobelt after an 8-6 tiebreaker and was followed by a convincing 6-4 set, also won by Kobelt. The freshman's singles victory would be the only Orange singles victory of the day despite several close matches played by senior Christina Tan at No. 4 singles, freshman Aleah Marrow at No. 5 singles and Simone Kalhorn at No. 6 singles. Tan lost in three sets to BU's Petra Santini, while Marrow and Kalhorn pushed their matches into extra playing time but eventually lost with scores of 6-2, 6-7 (12-10) and 5-7, 6-2 (10-7), respectively.
Syracuse returns to the court next weekend for two BIG EAST matches. The first, against Villanova, will take place Friday, Feb. 25 at 6 p.m., with the second, against West Virginia, begins at 9 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 27. Both matches will be held at the Drumlins Tennis Center.
