Orange Edged 4-3 By USC

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Syracuse tennis team (10-3) was edged by No. 9 USC (10-2), 4-3, on Tuesday at Marks Stadium. Junior Emily Harman and freshman Maddie Kobelt highlighted SU's doubles play, defeating the nation's seventh ranked doubles pair in Maria Sanchez and Kaitlyn Christian, 8-5. The Orange and the Trojans split 3-3 in singles play, but the match was decided by USC claiming the doubles point.
Harman and Kobelt are now 10-2 this season at the number one spot as a doubles duo. The pair has won six consecutive matches and has not lost a match since Feb. 12 against Buffalo. Senior Simone Kalhorn and junior Alessondra Parra lost to USC's Lyndsay Kinstler and Danielle Lao, 8-3. The freshman pair of Aleah Marrow and Eva Raskiewicz was defeated by Cristala Andrews and Alison Ramos, 8-2.
Parra earned her fourth consecutive singles win in the third singles spot. After losing the first set 4-6, she responded with a 6-0 victory in the second to force a third set tiebreaker where she came away with the win, 1-0 (12-10). Also winning their matches for the Orange was Kalhorn and Marrow. Marrow captured her third straight win at the sixth singles spot against USC's Hayley Miller, 6-2, 6-2. Kalhorn secured her singles point at the fifth position, winning 6-2, 7-5.
Harman took on Sanchez, the top ranked singles player in the nation, at the first singles spot and lost 6-1, 6-1. At the second position, Kobelt was defeated, 6-3, 6-1. The loss snapped an eight match win streak for Kobelt, who had not lost a match since February 4 against Binghamton. Senior Christina Tan was defeated at the fourth singles position by Andrews, 6-0, 6-2.
The Orange will take on San Diego State on March 16 at 2 p.m. at the Aztec Tennis Center. The Aztecs are ranked 62nd among Division I women's programs.
