PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Syracuse University tennis team did not give up a point en route to a 7-0 victory against Pittsburgh on Friday. The Orange capped off a six match road swing, which dates back to March 25, with a record of 4-2. SU moved to 7-1 in BIG EAST action and 15-6 overall.
Syracuse dominated play from the beginning by sweeping every match in doubles play. The No. 32 ranked duo of junior co-captain Emily Harman and freshman Maddie Kobelt easily defeated Pittsburgh's pair of Elizabeth Adams and Gabi Catanzariti, 8-1. The victory marked the 30th overall win for Kobelt in her career.
The other two pairings for the Orange had a more difficult time but eventually outlasted their Panther counterparts with both matches resulting in 9-8 decisions. Senior co-captain Simone Kalhorn and freshman Aleah Marrow played at the No. 2 spot, while fellow senior co-captain Christina Tan paired with junior Alessondra Parra at the No. 3 slot.
Singles play was equally as strong for the Orange, as nearly every match ended in straight sets for Syracuse. The only exception was at the No. 1 position, where Harman's opponent, Elizabeth Adams, retired the second set after losing to Harman, 6-3, in the first set.
Marrow continued her singles win streak, extending it to six matches, by handily defeating Pitt's Brittney Russel, 6-1, 6-2, at the No. 6 singles spot.
The sweep of the Panthers marks the sixth time the Orange has swept an opponent this season and the fourth in BIG EAST play. Syracuse has outscored its conference opponents by a 42-7 margin this season.
The Orange will return to the court for its final match of the regular season on April 22nd at 10:00 a.m. at the Drumlins Tennis Center.
