SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Senior Christina Tan (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) of the Orange tennis team and sophomore Franklin Taylor (Norwich, Vt.) of the track & field squad are the Syracuse University Scholar-Athletes of the Week for the week of April 18, 2011.
Tan has helped Syracuse record an overall record of 15-6, including a 7-1 mark in the BIG EAST Conference. With an overall career record of 94-62, Tan is just six wins away from joining the 100 win club at SU. She has earned Athletic Director's Honor Roll during each semester and was named to the 2010 BIG EAST All-Academic Team.
Tan, a recording and allied entertainment major, and the Orange will host BIG EAST foe Connecticut for SU's last regular season match on April 22 at 10 a.m. at Drumlins Tennis Center.
Taylor has mainly competed in the 110-meter hurdles and long jump this season, qualifying for the BIG EAST Championships in both events. Most recently, he took eighth in the long jump at the Auburn War Eagle Invitational. During indoor season, Taylor also met BIG EAST standards in the long jump and took fourth at the conference championship.
Taylor, a classical civilizations major, and members of the Orange are slated to compete at the Cornell Upstate Challenge on April 23.
