The Syracuse University softball team (30-11, 8-5) returns to BIG EAST play today for a doubleheader against Georgetown (12-36, 5-8) at 12:30 at the SU Softball Stadium. The Orange has won six of its last seven, including its last five in conference play. The Hoyas are finished an eight-game homestand with a 3-5 mark.
The Orange has been led by junior pitcher Jenna Caira. The Toronto, Canada native was most recently named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for her performance at Massachusetts last weekend. She recorded 22 strikeouts in just 13.0 innings of work against the Minutewomen.
SU has seven players hitting better than .300, including junior outfielder Lisaira Daniels. The Tampa, Fla. native is hitting .345, with at team-best 48 hits, 33 runs and 28 RBIs. Senior third baseman Hallie Gibbs is hitting .314, with 33 hits, a team-high 10 doubles, seven homeruns and team-best 41 RBS.
Freshman Jenna Stark continues to pace the Hoyas in overall batting with a .323 average and is tops in hits with 42. She is second on the squad in RBI (17) and is one of the best in the BIG EAST at putting the ball in play. She is tied for first in the conference among players with at least 100 at bats, striking out only seven times all season.
Syracuse is 2-3 all-time against Georgetown, but has not faced the Hoyas in the 'Cuse since 2009.
