SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The SU women's volleyball team has released its 2011 schedule. The Orange is slated to take part in four non-conference tournaments before starting BIG EAST Conference play on Sept. 23.
The season kicks off when SU hosts the Big Orange Tournament. Play begins on Aug. 26 with Syracuse taking on Sacred Heart. The Orange wraps up the tournament by hosting Youngstown State and Siena on Aug. 27.
Following the Big Orange Tournament, Syracuse heads to Logan, Utah to participate in a tournament hosted by Utah State. On Sept. 2, the Orange will face the host Aggies, before squaring off against Texas State and Idaho State on Sept. 3. After concluding tournament play, Syracuse will remain in Utah to play Utah Valley on Sept. 5.
The next two weekends feature appearances in the Long Island University Tournament (Sept. 9-10), followed by the Buffalo Tournament (Sept. 16-17).
The Orange opens its BIG EAST Conference schedule on Sept. 23 versus USF. Syracuse also hosts league rivals Villanova (Oct. 7), Georgetown (Oct. 9), Marquette (Oct. 15), Rutgers (Oct. 21), Seton Hall (Oct. 23), DePaul (Nov. 11) and Notre Dame (Nov. 13) in 2011.
The team's road BIG EAST scheduled includes matches at St. John's (Oct. 1), Connecticut (Oct. 3), West Virginia (Oct. 29), Pittsburgh (Oct. 31), Louisville (Nov. 5) and Cincinnati (Nov. 6).
In addition to its 14 BIG EAST matches, Syracuse will play three non-conference contests that are not scheduled as part of a tournament. The Orange visits Niagara on Sept. 25 and hosts Colgate on Oct. 5 before concluding its non-league slate at Binghamton on Oct. 19.
The top eight teams in the conference standings will advance to the BIG EAST Championship in Milwaukee, Wis. The tournament begins on Friday, Nov. 18 and continues until Sunday, Nov. 20. Marquette is this year's tournament host.
