Syracuse, N.Y. – Laura Hahnefeldt of the SU field hockey team and Ryan Tessler of the Orange men's soccer team are the Syracuse University Scholar Athletes of the Week for September 12, 2011.
Hahnefeldt was recognized as a National Field Hockey Collegiate Association (NFHCA) Division I National Academic Team member in 2010. On the pitch, she earned NFHCA All-American Second Team honors as a freshman, as well as NFHCA All-Midwest First Team accolades. She was also selected to the All-BIG EAST Conference Second Team.
A native of Hamburg, Germany, Hahnefeldt has started every game this season on the back line and recorded an assist at No. 2 North Carolina. She is pursuing an undergraduate degree in marketing. Hahnefeldt was a BIG EAST All-Academic Team selection last season.
Hailing from Newtown, Penn., Tessler has started every game at defense for the Orange in 2011 after playing just two games a year ago due to a season-ending injury.
