Hinz Earns First BIG EAST Weekly Honor

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Middle blocker Sam Hinz has earned BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll recognition for her MVP tournament performance at the Blackbird Invitational last weekend on the campus of Long Island University.
Hinz tallied 18 digs while hitting at a .390 clip in three matches at LIU. She also added 16 blocks to her league leading total of 64. Against Temple, Hinz totaled nine blocks; the most by any player during a four set match in the BIG EAST last week.
A native of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Hinz also leads the conference in block assists (57) and is tied for the highest blocks per set average at 1.68.
Syracuse finished 3-0 at the Blackbird Invitational and its 8-2 overall record is tops in the league along with Louisville and Pittsburgh.
This is Hinz' first career BIG EAST weekly honor. She leads the Orange into the Blue and White Invitational hosted by Buffalo this upcoming weekend with matches against the host Bulls, Dayton and Cornell.
