Syracuse Leads the Nation in Blocks

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse University volleyball team is leading the nation in blocks per set through the first three weeks of competition. The Orange is averaging 3.34 blocks per set and its defense has propelled SU to the top of the BIG EAST standings at 8-2.
Syracuse's success at the net is spear-headed by junior middle blocker Sam Hinz and sophomore middle blocker Lindsay McCabe.
Hinz has the second most blocks in the nation with 64, while her blocks per set average (1.68) ranks her fifth in the country. She leads the BIG EAST in total blocks, block assists (57) and blocks per set. Hinz is on pace to set the single season blocks record at Syracuse. Sarah Morton ('09) and Jessica Paarlberg ('90) currently share the top spot with 186.
McCabe is one of five players in the NCAA to have reached double-digits in solo blocks with 10. Her 1.40 blocks per set average ranks her 24th nationally and third in the BIG EAST.
The two have combined for 113 total blocks this season and have helped Syracuse hold its opponents to a .106 hitting percentage which is tops in the BIG EAST.
Hinz and McCabe lead Syracuse into the Blue and White Classic this weekend hosted by Buffalo. SU will play the host Bulls on Friday night, followed by Saturday contests with Dayton and Cornell.
