Holloway Named ECAC Defender Of Week

Iona Holloway continues to earn weekly honors following her performances in Syracuse's two wins last weekend, this time earning ECAC Defensive Player of the Week Honors. Holloway scored her first goal of the season in a win against No. 17 Boston University on Sunday, and was also named the BIG EAST Defender of the Week on Monday.

Last weekend, SU field hockey (7-2, 2-0 BIG EAST) recorded two wins at No. 19 Louisville and against No. 17 Boston University. Holloway, who has started in all nine games this season, potted her first goal of the season to open the scoring against the Terriers. She was also part of a defense that held Louisville and BU to six and four shots, respectively.

This season, SU's defense has been one of the best in the country. The Orange are tied for ninth in the nation with three shutouts in nine games (.333), sixth in goals against average (1.09), and 11th in save percentage (.767).

The Orange will continue its seven-game homestand will games against Providence on Friday (4:00 p.m.) and UMass on Sunday (2:00 p.m.).
