
Susek and McInerny Earn BIG EAST Honor Roll Accolades

PROVIDENCE – Syracuse University field hockey seniors Heather Susek and Liz McInerney were both named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for their performances against No. 2 North Carolina and No. 11 Wake Forest. The honor is Susek's first and McInerney's second of the season McInerney was also named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week on Aug. 29.
Susek scored a goal in each of Syracuse's two games last weekend. In the 23rd minute of play, at UNC, the forward took a pass from sophomore midfielder Leonie Geyer and sent a shot into the upper left corner of the cage for her second goal of the year. The tally gave SU an early 1-0 advantage.
Against the Demon Deacons a day later, Susek fired a shot into the cage with an assist from freshman midfielder Stephanie Hussey at 51:59. It was SU's third goal of the afternoon. Susek has scored a team-best three goals in SU's first three games of the season.
McInerney was at the front of the Syracuse defense in its two contests last weekend. The midfielder helped SU shutout UNC for 49 minutes at Friday night. The Orange limited the Tar Heels to just five shots and one penalty corner in the first half. McInerney also scored SU's second goal of the day. Sophomore back Laura Hahnefeldt sent a ball to the right-side of the cage and McInerney directed it in for a two-goal lead that the Orange would carry into halftime.
The senior helped lead Syracuse to a 4-1 versus Wake Forest on Saturday. The Orange defense only allowed one goal on seven shots and four penalty corners. McInerney has recorded one goal and one assist on the season.
Susek, McInerney and the rest of the Orange return to action on Friday, September 9 at No. 6 Ohio State.
