BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Syracuse University tennis team (2-2) recorded its second straight sweep as the Orange defeated Buffalo (0-1) on Sunday afternoon at the Ellicott Tennis Courts.
“The girls are excited to get this win. I am really happy with how the freshmen are coming around,” head coach Luke Jensen said. “We have been practicing with a lot of intensity, and that has helped them respond to the match scenario. We are looking forward to the challenge of playing Cincinnati and Ohio State next weekend.”
SU won all three doubles matches to earn a 1-0 advantage heading into singles. Emily Harman and Komal Safdar defeated Shah/Podlas 8-1 on court one, while Maddie Kobelt and Aleah Marrow topped Markovic.Stoyanova 8-6 on court two.
Alessondra Parra and Amanda Rodgers concluded the doubles sweep with an 8-3 triumph against Candanoza/Golenko on court three.
Singles saw Harman and Safdar win on courts one and two 6-1, 6-4 and 6-3, 6-3, respectively. Kobelt outlasted Markovic on court three 7-5, 6-4, and Parra defeated Golenko in fourth singles 6-1, 6-2.
After dropping the first set, Marrow rebounded for a 2-6, 6-0, 6-1 victory in fifth singles against Podlas, and Rodgers rounded out the match on court six with a straight-set 6-3, 6-2 win against Candanoza.
The Orange is on the road next weekend with contests at Ohio State (12 p.m.) on Saturday and at Cincinnati (11 a.m.) on Sunday.
