SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse women's basketball team (13-9, 2-6 BIG EAST) heads to New England on Tuesday to face Providence (12-9, 4-4 BIG EAST) in a 7 p.m. tip-off at Alumni Hall/Mullaney Gymnasium.

SERIES HISTORY
• This will be the 50th meeting all-time between Syracuse and Providence with the Friars leading, 31-18. SU is 5-19 at PC and 12-9 at home.
• Quentin Hillsman is 4-2 against the Friars.
• The Orange won last season's meeting, 63-47, at the Carrier Dome on Feb. 25. Kayla Alexander tallied 18 points, six rebounds and five blocks to lead SU, while Iasia Hemingway added 14 points and eight boards. Mi-Khida Hankins led PC with 17 points while Teya Wright had a double-double with 14 points and 10 boards.
• The teams met in the second round of the BIG EAST Championship in 2010, with the Orange winning, 76-71, on March 6. Erica Morrow scored four of her 24 points in the closing 1:16 to ice the win for SU.
• The last time the teams played in Providence was earlier that season, on Jan. 19, 2010, when the Friars won, 71-69. PC shot 45 percent from the 3-point line, and SU shot 26.9 percent from the floor in the second half after shooting 53.8 percent in the opening 20 minutes.
• SU's last win at Providence was on Feb. 19, 2008, by a score of 62-58.
SCOUTING PROVIDENCE
• The Friars are 12-9 overall and 4-4 in BIG EAST play. They have won three out of four coming into Tuesday.
• The Friars are coming off a 66-50 win at home vs. Pitt on Saturday after winning by two at Marquette (52-50) on Jan. 21. Their last loss was 64-48 at No. 18 Louisville on Jan. 18.
• PC is led by senior forward and UMass transfer Teya Wright, who averages nearly a double-double at 13.0 points and a BIG EAST-leading 9.5 rebounds per game.
• Rachel Barnes is the top backcourt threat, averaging 11.3 points per game and leading the team with 30 3s.
• PC has won with defense in 2011-12, holding teams to 57.9 ppg, while scoring a conference-low 56.3 ppg.
• Phil Seymore (Canisius '89) is in his seventh season as head coach. He led the team to an 11th-place finish in the BIG EAST in 2010-11, going 13-16 overall and 6-10 in conference. He took the team to the WNIT in 2009-10 when the Friars went 19-15.
LAST TIME OUT
• After Syracuse erased a 10-point second half deficit, Bjonee Reaves hit a jumper with 2.5 seconds left to lead Cincinnati (10-11, 1-7) past the Orange on Saturday at the Carrier Dome. Syracuse used 7-0 and 8-0 runs in the final 20 minutes to climb back into the game as Iasia Hemingway led the SU with 12 points and seven rebounds.
• Syracuse shot 38% (24-of-64) for the game while the two teams combined for 36 turnovers. The Orange held a 44-31 edge in rebounds and had 38 second chance points following 26 offensive boards.
• Kayla Cook led four Bearcats in double-figures with 14 points, while Jeanise Randolph added 11 and 13 rebounds off the bench.
ALEXANDER HONORED BY CONFERENCE
• Kayla Alexander was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll last Monday for her performance in the Orange's road win against Seton Hall, 70-66, on Jan. 22.
• It is the third BIG EAST weekly honor of the season for the junior center from Milton, Ontario. She received the same award on Nov. 21 and Nov. 28.
• Alexander led all scorers with 23 points on 10-of-15 shooting from the field and 3-of-4 shooting at the free throw line. She grabbed eight rebounds, seven of which came at the offensive end, leading the Orange's 30-24 advantage in points in the paint and 46-38 edge on the boards.
• Iasia Hemingway recently received the honor two weeks in a row, on Jan. 2 and Jan. 9.
DOMINATING THE GLASS
• Dominant rebounding has become the norm for the Orange in recent years. Syracuse is third in the NCAA in rebounding, averaging 48.2 per game and ranks seventh in margin at +11.4 per game.
• In the BIG EAST, SU leads the conference in rebounds per game (48.2), offensive rebounds (21.9) and is second in rebounding margin (+11.4).
• SU has four of the top 20 rebounders in the BIG EAST (9. Carmen Tyson-Thomas, 7.7; 10. Kayla Alexander, 7.3; 13. Iasia Hemingway, 6.8; and 15. Shakeya Leary, 6.5.
• Syracuse led the NCAA in rebounding margin last season at +13.4 per game. SU outrebounded 31 of its 35 opponents.
STRONG AT THE STRIPE
• An aggressive, attacking style of offense results in the Orange ranking third in the NCAA in free throws made (395) and fifth in free throws attempted (526).
• Syracuse is third in the BIG EAST in free throw shooting percentage at .751.
• Carmen Tyson-Thomas has the second-best percentage at the charity stripe in the conference (.902).
• On Jan. 7 at Pitt, The Orange went 34-of-38 (.895) at the line, including Iasia Hemingway setting a school record with 15 free throws in 16 attempts.
ALEXANDER CONTROLS THE POST
• Junior center Kayla Alexander is the Orange's second-leading scorer (15.2 ppg.) and rebounder (7.3 rpg.) this season. She ranks ninth in the BIG EAST in scoring and 10th in rebounding, while leading the conference in blocked shots (57 total, 2.6 per game).
• Alexander has scored 1,238 points in 93 career games. The junior ranks 10th all-time at SU, 16 points behind ninth-place Paula Moore (1997-01) at 1,254.
• Alexander scored a career-high 33 points against Binghamton on Nov. 26, giving her 1,008 points in her career. She becomes the 21st player in program history to score 1,000 points in her career and the first since Erica Morrow accomplished the feat in 2009-10.
• Alexander is third on Syracuse's career blocked shot list with 218, 16 behind Vaida Sipaviciute (2005-08) for second all-time at SU.
• Alexander is fourth on SU's career free throws made list at 346. Next up is Julie McBride (2001-04) with 348.
HEMINGWAY SPARKS ORANGE
• Senior Iasia Hemingway has reached double figures in scoring in 18 of 22 games this season and reached the 30-point mark three times. She leads the team in scoring (15.9 ppg), ranking sixth in the BIG EAST, and averages 6.8 rebounds.
• She scored a career-high 33 points, including a school-record 15 free throws in 16 attempts, in a win at Pitt (1/7).
• She set a then-career-high with 31 points to go along with 13 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the season vs. Colgate on Dec. 31.
• Hemingway played the first two years of her career at Georgia Tech before transfering to SU. She has scored 1,419 points in her career, 794 of them wearing Orange.
TYSON-THOMAS MAKES IMPACT
• Junior Carmen Tyson-Thomas ranks third on the team in scoring (11.2 ppg.) and leads the club in rebounding (7.7 rpg) this season.
• She had a streak of three-straight double-doubles (12/29, 12/31, 1/3) and had scored in double figures in five-straight. She has five double-doubles on the season and 14 in her career.
• The versatile swing-player has set career-highs in scoring in twice this season. Tyson-Thomas scored a career-high 21 points in SU's win against Lafayette. She improved on that performance in Syracuse's win against Buffalo, scoring a team-high 23 points. Since then she has posted 22 points against Ohio (12/20).
• She ranks second in the BIG EAST in free throw shooting percentage at .902 (46-51), ranks fourth in offensive rebounds per game (3.5), and ninth in total rebounds per game (7.7).
HALL DISPLAYS ALL-AROUND GAME
• Do-everything junior Elashier Hall has shown her veratility this season, averaging nearly double-figures in scoring at 8.0 points per game to go along with 5.0 rebounds per contest, all while leading the team with 67 assists and is second in steals (36).
• Hall had 14 points, seven rebounds, six assists and hit a key 3-pointer in the final minute of SU's comeback win at Seton Hall on Sunday.
• Hall led the Orange with 19 points against Oklahoma (12/19), going 11-of-13 from the free throw line.
LEARY CLEANING UP THE GLASS
• SU's key post presence off the bench, sophomore Shakeya Leary has posted double figures in rebounds in five contests this season. She led the Orange with 13 rebounds against Long Beach State. Leary also had 10 rebounds against Binghamton, 10 at Boise State (11/29) and 10 vs. Xavier (12/18).
• Leary scored a career-high 14 points, grabbed nine boards and blocked four shots in 16 minutes vs. Coppin State on Dec. 10.
• Leary is averaging 6.5 rebounds in 16.9 minutes per game. That equates to 15.5 rebounds per 40 minutes of action.
BULLARD COMING ON STRONG
• Sophomore wing Phylesha Bullard has become one of the Orange's key players off the bench in recent games. While averaging 2.1 points and 2.1 rebounds in 10.4 minutes per game for the season, she has averaged seven points and six rebounds in 23 minutes per contest in SU's last two games.
• Bullard scored six points and grabbed five rebounds vs. No. 3 UConn (1/25), and then set tied a career-high with eight points vs. Cincinnati (1/28) with a career-high seven rebounds.
