PROVIDENCE, R.I. - After a 2-0 week with both wins coming by way of shutout, No. 1 Syracuse field hockey's (11-0, 3-0 BIG EAST) Jordan Page and Gillian Pinder were honored with weekly awards by the BIG EAST on Monday.
An integral part to the Orange defense that did not allow a goal in wins over No. 25 Louisville (3-0) and Yale (5-0) over the weekend, Page was named the conference's Defensive Player of the Week. The sophomore midfielder made several key tackles and interceptions as Syracuse allowed just 10 combined shots, and just three of which were on goal. Page also contributed a goal and an assist on the offensive end, giving her five of each on the season.
It is the first such honor of Page's career. The USA Field Hockey U21 National Team member is the third different Syracuse player to take the conference's top defensive honor, joining Iona Holloway (9/3) and Leann Stiver (9/24).
Head Coach Ange Bradley's Orange, which entered last week as the second-best defense in the country, allowing just 0.66 goals per game, lowered that mark to 0.55 with two shutouts.
Pinder was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll for her efforts in helping fuel an Orange offense that scored eight goals in two games. The freshman midfielder scored two goals and assisted on another in Sunday's 5-0 win vs. Yale. It was the second multi-goal game of Pinder's career and gave her five on the season.
With its two wins last week, the undefeated and top-ranked Orange ran its shutout streak to 311 consecutive minutes and its home winning streak to 34 games. It is 11-0 for the second time in program history and trails only the 2008 team's 14-0 start for the best in program history.
Syracuse returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Providence to take on the Friars in a noon game at Lennon Family Field.
