SU Loses to Quinnipiac, 3-2, in Overtime

A power play goal with seven seconds left in overtime was what it took for Quinnipiac to defeat Syracuse, 3-2, on Friday afternoon at Tennity Ice Pavilion. The Orange's (2-3-0, 2-0-0 CHA) two goals were scored by junior forward Sadie St. Germain and freshman forward Laurie Kingsbury. Junior goaltender Jenesica Drinkwater posted 36 saves in the loss.
To begin the game, QU took a quick penalty 21 seconds into the first period, on checking call on Cydney Toesler. The Orange fought hard but was unable to find the back of the net. Despite three power play opportunities throughout the first period for the Orange, the game would remain scoreless on both ends after the first 20 minutes of play.
Almost halfway through the second period, Danielle Leslie passed the puck up ice to St. Germain. St. Germain scored at 9:32 in the second frame to give SU a 1-0 advantage.
Quinnipiac wasted no time in countering the goal, after Kelly Babstock scored on a breakaway off of a pass from Nicole Brown at 10:39.
The Orange took back the lead after a goal from Kingsbury. Kingsbury was the fed the puck right in front of the net from Melissa Piacentini. She was able to slip the puck over Vigilanti's left shoulder for her fourth goal of the season, extending her point-streak to five straight games (4g, 3a). Her goal came 17:13 into the second period.
Again, the Bobcats did not let SU have the lead for long. Erica Uden Johansson took advantage of a QU power play and tied the game up at 2-2, 1:45 after Kingsbury's tally.
Neither team was able to net one in the third period, sending the game into overtime.
With 58 seconds left in the overtime period, Drinkwater was called for holding, putting QU on the power play. Uden Johansson notched her second power play goal of the night with seven seconds remaining in the extra frame.
For the third game this season, Syracuse went scoreless on the power play (0-for-5). The Bobcats outshot the Orange, 39-38.
The Orange and Bobcats meet again tomorrow at 2 p.m. at Tennity Ice Pavilion.
