
Graves and McInerney Named Orange Scholar-Athletes of the Week

SYRACUSE, N.Y- Graduate student Liz McInerney (East Meadow, N.Y) of the Orange field hockey team and redshirt senior Griff Graves (Abingdon, Va.) of the men's cross country team are the Syracuse University Orange Scholar-Athletes of the Week for Nov.12, 2012.
Graves has raced to three top 20 finishes this season, including a second place overall finish at the Harry Lang invitational with a time of 20:06. The 2012 All-BIG EAST selection finished 13th overall in the BIG EAST Championship with a time of 24:58.
He was a member of the Athletic Director's Honor Roll for six out of eight semesters at SU, and a member of the BIG EAST All Academic Team for both the 2010-11 and 2011-12 seasons. Graves earned his undergraduate degree in public relations in May 2012 and is currently pursuing his master's degree in New Media Management in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications.
McInerney has started in all 21 matches this season. The midfielder was named to the BIG EAST All Academic team in 2010-11 and was named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 17, 2012. She was a member of the Fall 2010 and Spring 2011 Athletic Director's Honor Roll at SU.
She scored a goal in the BIG EAST Championship game against No. 5 Connecticut, and was named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team. McInerney earned her undergraduate degree in psychology in the College of Arts and Sciences in May and is presently enrolled in the magazine, newspaper and online journalism master's degree program in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications..
Graves and the rest of the men's cross country team will compete in the NCAA Championship at Louisville on Saturday Nov. 17 at 12 p.m. McInerney and the Orange field hockey team will take on No. 1 North on Friday Nov. 16 at 2 p.m. in Norfolk, Va. Carolina in the Final Four round of the NCAA tournament.
