Hinz Earns Academic All-District Honors

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Senior middle blocker Samantha Hinz has been selected to the Capital One Academic All-District team, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) yesterday afternoon. Hinz is one of six named to the District I squad.
She will now be considered for national honors as an Academic All-American, which will be announced at the end of November. Hinz leads the team in blocking with 95 total blocks, including nine solo blocks. She also holds the SU single-season record for block assists (143), which se set in 2011.
Off the court, Hinz serves as the founder and co-present of the United State Green Building Council (USGB) at SU, where she leads students in planning events for sustainable education on campus and in the community. She also served as a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee during the 2009-10 academic year.
The 2012 Capital One Academic All-District volleyball teams are selected annually by the College Sport Information Directors of America to recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. All nominees must be either a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletic credentials and have at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0) scale.
