CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Syracuse University tennis team (5-3) defeated its second nationally-ranked opponent in as many day with a narrow 4-3 victory at No. 60 Harvard (1-3) on Sunday.
After starting the season 0-3 against Top 75 competition, the Orange has reeled off two straight victories against ranked opponents with 4-3 wins at Boston College yesterday and at Harvard today.
The Orange lost the doubles point as the Crimson took two-of-three matches. Alessondra Prra and Amanda Rodgers registered SU's only doubles victory of the day on court three with a 9-7 triumph.
Down 1-0 heading into singles, the Orange took four of six from Harvard, two of which were three set victories.
Emily Harman improved her team best singles record to 7-1 with a 6-2, 6-1 defeat of Hideko Tachibana on court one.
Courts two and three went to Harvard, but Breanna Bachini was victorious on court four by a mark of 6-2, 6-4. Parra and Rodgers then won both of their matches in decisive third sets. Parra defeated Samantha Gridley on court five, 6-2, 5-7, 7-6, while Rodgers topped Hanna Morrill 5-7, 7-6, 7-6 in sixth singles.
The Orange begins a four match home-stand beginning next Saturday morning as SU hosts Temple at Drumlins Tennis Courts. First serve is set for 11:00 a.m.
