SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The No. 73 Syracuse University tennis team (6-3) won its fourth consecutive match on Saturday afternoon with a 6-1 victory against the Temple Owls (1-4) at Drumlins Tennis Club.
The Orange extended its home winning streak to 26 consecutive matches with the victory. SU has not lost at Drumlins since Feb. 22, 2009.
SU won the doubles point with victories on courts one and two. Emily Harman and Breanna Bachini won first doubles 8-3 against Temple's Batey/Doms, while Aleah Marrow and Maddie Kobelt defeated Breland/Rozite 8-4 in second doubles.
With the 1-0 advantage in hand, Syracuse singles 1-5 were all victories to capture the 6-1 victory. Amanda Rodgers was the first to finish as she won a straight set 7-5, 6-2 decision against Agnese Rozite on court five. Bachini followed that up with a 6-2, 6-4 triumph on court three.
Alessondra Parra then defeated Jordan Batey in fourth singles by a mark of 7-6, 7-5. The senior is now six wins away from 100 in her career.
Syracuse's final two wins of the day came in three set decisions, starting with No. 93 Emily Harman topping Temple's number one Yana Mavrina 3-6, 6-4, 6-1. Kobelt rounded out the day in second singles with a 6-7, 6-1, 6-3 victory against Paola Calderon.
“There were some good elements today, but we didn't play well,” head coach Luke Jensen said. “I thought our freshmen Bachini and Rodgers were outstanding, but we are going to have to play better in general.”
The Orange is back on the court tomorrow morning against conference foe Rutgers. First serve at Drumlins Tennis Club is set for 10:00 a.m. Fan can follow live stats for tomorrow's match by clicking here.
