SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse University women's tennis team (7-4, 3-1) suffered its first home loss in 28 matches when it lost 5-2 to No. 59 William & Mary (2-6) on Friday, Feb. 24 at the Drumlins Tennis Club. SU's last home loss came more than three years ago on Feb. 22, 2009, when the Orange lost 4-3 to Iowa State.
Syracuse got two singles victories from freshman Amanda Rodgers and senior Alessondra Parra. Rodgers won her ninth straight singles match when she defeated William & Mary's Katie Kargl, 6-1, 6-4. Parra bested the Tribe's Sydney Smith, 6-1, 6-1.
The Orange was swept in doubles, losing 8-2 in both first and third doubles. The second doubles pair of sophomores Maddie Kobelt and Aleah Marrow took their match to the wire, ultimately losing 8-6.
Nationally ranked senior Emily Harman lost her first singles match in her last ten tries, losing 6-4, 6-2 to William & Mary's Jeltje Loomans.
SU is back in action Sunday morning against No. 25 Yale with first serve set for 9 a.m.
