Orange Hosts USF On Daughter Day
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse women's basketball team (14-9, 3-6 BIG EAST) returns to the Carrier Dome on Saturday when it hosts USF (12-11, 4-5 BIG EAST) at 1 p.m.
• It will be “Daughter Day” on Saturday. With the purchase of an adult ticket, fans will receive a daughter ticket free.

SERIES HISTORY
• This will be the 10th meeting all-time between Syracuse and USF with the Bulls lholding the slight edge, 5-4. SU is 2-2 at home.
• Quentin Hillsman is 2-4 against the Bulls.
• The Orange won last season's meeting, 78-57, at the Carrier Dome on Jan. 29. Kayla Alexander tallied 17 points to lead the way, while Erica Morrow and Elashier Hall had 13 each as SU put five players in double figures.
• The teams met in Tampa on Jan. 16, 2010 with USF defeating the RV/25 Orange, 73-64. Juanita Ward led SU with 15 points and nine rebounds. Tasha Harris added 13 points. Jessica Lawson had a double-double for USF with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
• Three seasons ago, on Feb. 9, 2009, USF defeated the Orange, 88-79, at the Carrier Dome. Chandrea Jones had 21 points and 11 rebounds to lead SU, but the Bulls scored 24 fastbreak points and 38 points in the paint.
SCOUTING USF
• The Bulls are 12-11 overall and 4-5 in BIG EAST play. They have dropped three out of their last four.
• USF is coming off a 55-52 loss at home vs. West Virginia on Wednesday. Prior to that, the Bulls played No. 3 Connecticut tough before falling, 77-62. Their last win was 57-45 vs. Seton Hall on Jan. 25.
• USF's best win was a 66-63 overtime victory against No. 21/19 DePaul on Jan. 17.
• Senior guard Jasmine Wynne is the top scorer for USF at 15.9 points per game. She also grabs 5.8 rebounds per game and leads the BIG EAST with 63 steals.
• Ukrainian guard Inga Orekhova has played in just eight games after becoming eligible for the spring semester, but averages 13.5 points and leads BIG EAST in 3-pointers made in conference games with 27.
• Jose Fernandez (FIU '94) is in his 12th season as head coach. He has led the Bulls to seven postseason appearances in the last eight seasons.
LAST TIME OUT
• Leading by 15 points at halftime, Syracuse would build its advantage to as many as 31 en route to an 80-54 victory on the road at Providence (12-10, 4-5) on Tuesday night at Alumni Hall.
• Syracuse was a perfect 23-of-23 from the free throw line, setting a BIG EAST single game record, surpassing the 22-of-22 mark set by West Virginia in 2001.
• Iasia Hemingway led SU in scoring for the 10th time with season with 24 points as one of five Orange players in double-figures.
• The Orange dominated the glass throughout the contest with a 39-20 edge, including a game-high eight from Kayla Alexander, who also added 10 points. Shakeya Leary had a career-high 15 points off the bench, while Rachel Coffey was perfect from the floor (4-of-4), contributing 13 points. Carmen Tyson-Thomas had 11.
ALEXANDER HONORED BY CONFERENCE
• Kayla Alexander was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll last Monday for her performance in the Orange's road win against Seton Hall, 70-66, on Jan. 22.
• It is the third BIG EAST weekly honor of the season for the junior center from Milton, Ontario. She received the same award on Nov. 21 and Nov. 28.
• Alexander led all scorers with 23 points on 10-of-15 shooting from the field and 3-of-4 shooting at the free throw line. She grabbed eight rebounds, seven of which came at the offensive end, leading the Orange's 30-24 advantage in points in the paint and 46-38 edge on the boards.
• Iasia Hemingway recently received the honor two weeks in a row, on Jan. 2 and Jan. 9.
DOMINATING THE GLASS
• Dominant rebounding has become the norm for the Orange in recent years. Syracuse is third in the NCAA in rebounding, averaging 47.8 per game and ranks seventh in margin at +11.7 per game.
• In the BIG EAST, SU leads the conference in rebounds per game (47.8), offensive rebounds (21.4) and is second in rebounding margin (+11.7).
• SU has four of the top 20 rebounders in the BIG EAST (9. Carmen Tyson-Thoma s, 7.7; 10. Kayla Alexander, 7.3; 14. Iasia Hemingway, 6.7; and 17. Shakeya Leary, 6.3.
• Syracuse led the NCAA in rebounding margin last season at +13.4 per game. SU outrebounded 31 of its 35 opponents.
STRONG AT THE STRIPE
• An aggressive, attacking style of offense results in the Orange ranking second in the NCAA in free throws made (418) and fourth in free throws attempted (549).
• Syracuse leads the BIG EAST in free throw shooting percentage at .761.
• Carmen Tyson-Thomas has the second-best percentage at the charity stripe in the conference (.902).
• The Orange set a BIG EAST record for most free throws made without in a miss in a game at Providence (1/31) when it went 23-of-23.
• On Jan. 7 at Pitt, The Orange went 34-of-38 (.895) at the line, including Iasia Hemingway setting a school record with 15 free throws in 16 attempts.
ALEXANDER CONTROLS THE POST
• Junior center Kayla Alexander is the Orange's second-leading scorer (15.0 ppg.) and rebounder (7.3 rpg.) this season. She ranks ninth in the BIG EAST in scoring and 10th in rebounding, while leading the conference in blocked shots (58 total, 2.5 per game).
• Alexander has scored 1,248 points in 94 career games. The junior ranks 10th all-time at SU, six points behind ninth-place Paula Moore (1997-01) at 1,254.
• Alexander scored a career-high 33 points against Binghamton on Nov. 26, giving her 1,008 points in her career. She becomes the 21st player in program history to score 1,000 points in her career and the first since Erica Morrow accomplished the feat in 2009-10.
• Alexander is third on Syracuse's career blocked shot list with 219, 15 behind Vaida Sipaviciute (2005-08) for second all-time at SU.
• Alexander is third on SU's career free throws made list at 352, just three behind Erica Morrow (2008-11) with 355.
HEMINGWAY SPARKS ORANGE
• Senior Iasia Hemingway has reached double figures in scoring in 19 of 23 games this season and reached the 30-point mark three times. She leads the team in scoring (16.2 ppg), ranking fifth in the BIG EAST, and averages 6.7 rebounds.
• She scored a career-high 33 points, including a school-record 15 free throws in 16 attempts, in a win at Pitt (1/7).
• She set a then-career-high with 31 points to go along with 13 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the season vs. Colgate on Dec. 31.
• Hemingway played the first two years of her career at Georgia Tech before transfering to SU. She has scored 1,443 points in her career, 818 of them wearing Orange.
TYSON-THOMAS MAKES IMPACT
• Junior Carmen Tyson-Thomas ranks third on the team in scoring (11.2 ppg.) and leads the club in rebounding (7.7 rpg) this season.
• She had a streak of three-straight double-doubles (12/29, 12/31, 1/3) and had scored in double figures in five-straight. She has five double-doubles on the season and 14 in her career.
• The versatile swing-player has set career-highs in scoring twice this season. Tyson-Thomas scored a career-high 21 points in SU's win against Lafayette. She improved on that performance in Syracuse's win against Buffalo, scoring a team-high 23 points. Since then she has posted 22 points against Ohio (12/20).
• She ranks second in the BIG EAST in free throw shooting percentage at .902 (46-51), ranks fourth in offensive rebounds per game (3.4), and ninth in total rebounds per game (7.7).
HALL DISPLAYS ALL-AROUND GAME
• Do-everything junior Elashier Hall has shown her veratility this season, averaging 7.9 points per game to go along with 4.9 rebounds per contest, all while leading the team with 69 assists and is second in steals (36).
• Hall had 14 points, seven rebounds, six assists and hit a key 3-pointer in the final minute of SU's comeback win at Seton Hall (1/22).
• Hall led the Orange with 19 points against Oklahoma (12/19), going 11-of-13 from the free throw line.
LEARY CLEANING UP THE GLASS
• SU's key post presence off the bench, sophomore Shakeya Leary has posted double figures in rebounds in five contests this season. She led the Orange with 13 rebounds against Long Beach State. Leary also had 10 rebounds against Binghamton, 10 at Boise State (11/29) and 10 vs. Xavier (12/18).
• Leary scored a career-high 15 points in 19 minutes at Providence (1/31).
• Leary is averaging 6.3 rebounds in 17.0 minutes per game. That equates to 15.0 rebounds per 40 minutes of action.
BULLARD COMING ON STRONG
• Sophomore wing Phylesha Bullard has become one of the Orange's key players off the bench in recent games. While averaging 2.1 points and 2.2 rebounds in 11.5 minutes per game for the season, she has averaged 5.3 points and 5.3 rebounds in 26.3 minutes per contest in SU's last three games.
• Bullard scored six points and grabbed five rebounds vs. No. 3 UConn (1/25), and then set tied a career-high with eight points vs. Cincinnati (1/28) with a career-high seven rebounds.
