CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Syracuse University tennis team (3-3) won all singles matches in straight sets, as the Orange swept Cincinnati (0-4) 7-0 on Sunday afternoon at the Western Tennis and Fitness Club.
The Orange was dominant right from the start, winning all three doubles matches with relative ease, and took a 1-0 advantage into singles. Courts two and three both won by a score of 8-1, while Emily Harman and Komal Safdar defeated Lee/Witte in first doubles, 8-5.
Syracuse breezed through singles as well, winning all contests in straight sets. Senior Alessondra Parra was the first to win her match in fifth singles as she blanked Sierra Sullivan 6-0, 6-0. Harman followed with a 6-2, 6-1 triumph on court one.
Safdar took care of business on court three, defeating Ashleigh Witte 6-2, 6-2, as was the score on court two as Maddie Kobelt defeated Kristina Georgieva.
Amanda Rodgers won 6-4, 6-1 in sixth singles, while Breanna Bachini, seeing her first action of the season, finished off the sweep with a 6-3, 6-1 defeat of Safiyya Ismail on court four.
Harman and Rodgers improved their team-leading singles record to 5-1, while Kobelt and Aleah Marrow moved to 5-1 in doubles competition. The Orange is now 6-0 all-time against the Bearcats.
The Orange will continue its trend of playing nationally-ranked opponents next weekend as SU travels to face No. 55 Boston College on Saturday and No. 60 Harvard on Sunday. Those two matches will be Syracuse's fourth and fifth contests against nationally-ranked opponents this season.
