SU Tops Bradley, 5-0, for Third Straight

CLEARWATER, Fla. – On its last day of competition in Clearwater, the Syracuse University softball team (13-8) defeated Bradley (10-11), 5-0, on Tuesday, March 13. The team finished with a 4-2 record in its games in Clearwater and is currently riding a three game win streak.
Senior Lisaira Daniels matched her career-best with three hits and had an RBI. Three other players had an RBI, as well. Sophomore Jasmine Watson led the team with two.
Senior pitcher Jenna Caira recorded her fourth victory in Clearwater. Caira did not allow a run, allowed two hits, and struck out eight in five innings of work.
Neither team scored in the first four innings. Caira was in control through that span, fanning seven batters and only allowing one hit.
The Syracuse bats came alive in the fifth inning. With Julie Wambold on third and Veronica Grant on first, Shirley Daniels grounded into a fielder's choice. All runners reached safely and the Orange scored the first run of the game. Lisaira Daniels would single up the middle to score Grant and Kohl would hit a ground-rule double to score Shirley Daniels. When all was said and done, SU took a 3-0 advantage.
SU would put the finishing touches on the Braves in the final inning. A double by Watson would score two runners and give the team a 5-0 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh.
Freshman Lindsay Taylor and junior Stacy Kuwik closed the game, pitching the sixth and seventh innings, respectively.
After its game against Bradley, the team took on the Netherlands national team in an exhibition. The Netherlands defeated the Orange, 5-1.
Syracuse held the European team scoreless for the first four innings. Ashley Dimon recorded the lone RBI for SU.
The Orange returns to action on Friday when it takes on Jacksonville in the Florida Atlantic Parents' Weekend Tournament in Boca Raton, Fla. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
