Softball Treks to Notre Dame for Three

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Syracuse University softball team (28-9, 5-1) travels to Notre Dame (20-11, 4-1) for a trio of conference games this weekend. The doubleheader on Saturday begins at 12:00 p.m., while the finale on Sunday is at 11:00 a.m. at Melissa Cook Stadium.
The Orange is 4-0 so far this week and is coming off back-to-back two game sweeps of Cornell and Binghamton. SU outscored the Big Red 18-2 on Wednesday in the two games, while Jenna Caira and Stacy Kuwik combined to strikeout 30 batters against Binghamton on Thursday.
SU is in the midst of a hot streak as the Orange has won eight in a row and 18 of its last 19 contests. Syracuse has not lost in the month of April.
Jasmine Watson looks to continue her stellar play in conference this weekend. Through her first two conference series, Watson is batting .600 (9-for-15) with three home runs, 11 RBI's and seven walks.
Julie Wambold and Carey-Leigh Thomas share a team-high with nine home runs. That mark ties the SU freshman single-season record set by Watson last season. Wambold also shares a team-high 27 runs batted in with Watson.
The Fighting Irish split a two game set with Rutgers on Wednesday and is in fifth place in the conference standings at 4-1. Syracuse is 5-1 in conference and is tied for second. ND has six players who hit above .300, led by Amy Buntin with a .370 average.
The Orange and the Fighting Irish will participate in 'Strike Out Cancer' to help raise money for South Bend Memorial Hospital Pediatric Hematology / Oncology Program. Syracuse will be wearing alternate orange jerseys and they will be available to buy after the weekend series. The money raised will be donated to the South Bend Memorial Hospital.
