SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Orange softball team kicks off a five game home-stand on Wednesday as Syracuse (30-10, 7-2) and Pittsburgh (23-19, 6-8) play a doubleheader at the SU Softball Stadium. First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m.
SU is coming off a week in which it went 6-1, including taking 2-of-3 from Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind. The Orange has now reached the 30-win plateau for the fourth-consecutive season.
A CLOSER LOOK:
The Orange continues to thrive with the long ball. SU ranks 10th nationally in home runs per game average (1.23), and leads the BIG EAST in that category. Syracuse has smacked 49 long balls in 40 games, while four players have at least eight homers.
Julie Wambold is tied for the BIG EAST lead with 10 round-trippers. The freshman leads the team in HR's and in RBI's (30). She has also set the new SU freshman record for home runs in a single-season.
WATTS IN CONFERENCE ACTION:
Senior Stephanie Watts is leading the team with a .407 batting average in nine league games. She has hit three of her four home runs in BIG EAST action and is a perfect 4-for-4 on stolen base attempts. She is one of four players who shares a team-high with eight runs scored in conference.
DANIELS' IN THE CONFERENCE STATISTICS:
Lisaira Daniels ranks in the top five in five different BIG EAST statistical categories. Her .382 overall batting average is fourth highest, while her 47 hits are tied for third. Her 31 runs scored are the fourth most, while 14 stolen bases are tied for second. Finally, Daniels leads the conference with 81 total bases.
KUWIK'S DOMINATING WEEK:
Stacy Kuwik received BIG EAST Honor Roll for going 3-0 in three starts last week. She had a 0.00 ERA and struck out 31 batters in her three starts, including a career-high 17 batters in a 2-0 win against Binghamton. She is now 9-3 on the season with a 1.90 ERA.
Pittsburgh is currently holding onto the eighth and final spot in the race for post-season action. Holly Stevens is the catalyst on offense with a team high .291 average and 37 hits. Savannah King is the ace in the circle for Pitt. She boasts a 16-12 record with a 1.60 ERA.
