Game Notes
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse University softball team (32-10, 9-2) plays host to Rutgers (21-22, 8-8) for a three game series this weekend at the SU Softball Complex. On Saturday, April 21 the two will play a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m. The final game of the series will be played on Sunday, April 22 with the first pitch set for noon.
Syracuse has won 22 of its last 24 games and is now in second place in the BIG EAST. SU is undefeated at home with a 9-0 record and is currently on a four game winning streak.
LAST TIME OUT:
Syracuse swept a midweek doubleheader with Pittsburgh on Wednesday, winning 8-0 in six innings and taking their second game, 4-1. In the first game, freshman Julie Wambold hit her team-leading 11th home run of the season and senior Stephanie Watts ended the game with a blast of her own. The second game featured a 10 strikeout performance from junior Stacy Kuwik.
WAMBOLD LEADING THE CONFERENCE:
With her solo shot against Pittsburgh, Wambold is now tied for the most home runs in the BIG EAST with UConn's Amy Vaughan. Wambold leads the team in both home runs and RBIs (31). Her 11 long balls is also a new SU single-season freshman record.
KUWIK IN A GROOVE:
Kuwik is on an unbelievable hot streak right now as she has not allowed an earned run in her last 34 innings pitched. She has registered 53 strikeouts in her last five starts and has lowered her ERA to a team-best 1.74. The Fairport, N.Y. native is now 10-3 on the season and has picked up eight wins in a row.
Live statistics and an in-game blog will be available for all three games against the Scarlet Knights.
