Hinz and McCabe Earn Preseason Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Syracuse volleyball senior Samantha Hinz and junior Lindsay McCabe have both been selected to the All-BIG EAST Preseason Team, as announced by the BIG EAST on Friday, August 17. The Orange volleyball squad was also picked to finish fifth among the 14 competing schools in the preseason coaches' poll.
The Orange went 19-12 overall and 8-6 in the conference in 2011. This year, the volleyball squad returns seven starters, with first-year head coach Leonid Yelin at the helm of the team.
Hinz and McCabe both enjoyed standout seasons last year. Hinz earned All-BIG EAST First-Team honors in 2011, after leading the league in total blocks (169), block assists (143), solo blocks (143) and blocks per set (1.44). McCabe earned second-team All-BIG EAST honors in 2011 and set career highs in kills (265) and blocks (132). She also led the team with a .282 hitting percentage.
Syracuse kicks off the 2012 season on August 24 against Illinois-Chicago at 10 a.m. in the Colgate Classic in Hamilton, N.Y.
