PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Following a one-goal, five-assist performance over two games for the No. 2 Syracuse field hockey team (7-0, 1-0 BIG EAST), Liz McInerney was named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week by the conference office on Monday.
The graduate student midfielder played a hand in six of Syracuse's 12 goals in its 2-0 weekend, including two assists in a 5-2 BIG EAST Conference-opening win vs. Villanova on Friday and had a goal and three assists in a 7-1 victory vs. Kent State on Sunday. She assisted on three of the Orange's four first-half goals against the Golden Flashes.
It is the first such honor of McInerney's career. She was named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 10, 2011 and to the conference honor roll on two occasions in 2011.
McInerney is the second Syracuse player to be named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week this season. Kelsey Millman took the honor on Aug. 27, while Iona Holloway was named Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 3.
A 2011 NFHCA First Team All-American and All-BIG EAST first-teamer, McInerney has two goals and six assists in 2012. She leads the Orange in assists and ranks fourth on the team with 10 points.
The native Dublin, Ireland led the Orange to a pair of victories that ran the Orange's home winning streak at J.S. Coyne Stadium to 32 games. The streak dates back to 2009 and has seen Syracuse outscore the opposition, 140-25.
The wins over Villanova and Kent State also ran the Orange's record to 7-0 on the season, the second time in program history the feat has been accomplished. The first was in 2008 when Syracuse started 14-0 on its way to a BIG EAST Championship and NCAA Final Four appearance.
