SYRACUSE, N.Y. - No. 1 Syracuse field hockey (10-0, 3-0 BIG EAST) stayed undefeated on the season and ran its home winning streak to 33 games by getting three goals from three different sources in a 3-0 win vs. No. 25 Louisville (7-4, 1-1 BIG EAST) on Saturday afternoon at J.S. Coyne Stadium.
Lauren Brooks and Stephanie Hussey scored first-half goals and Leonie Geyer added a second-half tally for the top-ranked Orange, while Leann Stiver recorded her third-straight shutout in goal with a three-save performance as Syracuse improved to 4-0 against ranked teams in 2012.
Brooks opened the scoring 6:22 into the game when she corralled the rebound of a Liz McInerney shot from the top of the circle and beat Cardinals goalie Erin Conrad for the sophomore forward's team-leading eighth goal of the season.
With 2:24 left in the half, Hussey made it a 2-0 game with her third goal of the season. Geyer brought the ball into the right side of the circle and fed the ball in front to Hussey and the sophomore was able to get the shot off in traffic.
The assist was the 25th of Geyer's career, moving the junior past Meg Ryan (2003-06) in seventh all-time at Syracuse.
After the Orange took a 2-0 lead into halftime, Geyer added her sixth goal of the season in the 47th minute when she passed back and forth with Jordan Page at the top of the circle following a penalty corner and let a blast go to make it 3-0 and close the scoring.
Stiver secured her third shutout in a row with a terrific pad-save on a point-blank shot by Becca Maddock with 8:35 left. It is the senior goalkeeper's sixth shutout of the season, tying her career high, and the 18th of her career. Combined with shutouts at Rutgers and No. 3 Princeton last week, Stiver has not allowed a goal in 241 minutes, dating back to Sept. 16 vs. Kent State.
For the game, the Orange outshot the Cardinals, 18-8, and out-cornered them, 7-4.
The Orange is 10-0 for the second time in program history. The other came in 2008 when Syracuse started 14-0 on its way to a Final Four appearance.
No. 1 Syracuse returns to action at Coyne Stadium on Sunday when it hosts Yale in a 2 p.m. non-conference game.
