SYRACUSE – The Syracuse tennis team (0-4, 0-1) will hit the road once more this weekend, traveling to Boston College (1-0, 0-0) to take on the Eagles Friday, Jan. 25 at 5 p.m. before returning home to host its season home-opener against Navy (1-1, 0-0) Sunday, Jan. 27 at Drumlins Country Club. The first serve is set for 9 a.m.
WEEK IN REVIEW:
The Orange spent last weekend on the road facing off against Georgia Tech and Georgia State. Despite two losses, the duo of Amanda Rodgers and Komal Safdar recorded the first SU doubles triumph against Georiga State. Safdar and Rodgers both picked up single victories against the Panthers defeating both their opponents in three sets.
SCOUTING THE COMPETITION:
Despite finishing 10-13 overall in 2012, Boston College has returned a core group of six letterwinners in 2013. The Eagles will enter this weekends match looking to continue the momentum from a 5-2 win against Dartmouth in its season opener. The Eagles will be paced by sophomore Jessica Wacnik, who reached the quarterfinals of singles play, later advancing to the semifinals of the doubles compeition with Olga Khmylev at the ITA Northeast Regional. Wanik is currently ranked No. 116 in singles.
Navy will travel to Syracuse looking to rebound from a 6-1 loss to Virginia Tech, after opening the 2013 season with a 7-0 win against Saint Francis. The Midshipmen opened two-of-three doubles points against St. Francis before taking five-of-six singles matches in straight sets. Senior Emani Decquir will lead Navy into the competition on Sunday, as a three-time first team all-Patriot League selection with a 54-46 record. Dequir recorded an 8-7 fall record and 1-1 record this spring.
UP NEXT:
After kicking off the season home-opener against Navy, the Orange will continue on their four-game home stand, hosting West Virginia on Saturday, Feb. 2 at 10 a.m.
