Small Boats Strong for Women’s Rowing at Princeton

PRINCETON, N.J. - Syracuse women's rowing posted the top five times among women's small boats, highlighting a strong day for the Orange at the Princeton Chase in Princeton, N.J. on Sunday. Syracuse's varsity eight finished in eighth place.
Head coach Justin Moore's team had a total of 12 boats in action on a busy day on Princeton's head course. The V8 "A" crew of Katherine Isaza (cox), Maggie McCrudden (stroke), Ailish Tinney (7), Georgia Hamilton (6), Rebecca Soja (5), Miranda Williams (4), Chelsea Frawley (3), Holly Johnston (2) and Amy Ludovici (bow) started the day by finishing eighth out of 52 boats in a time of 15:08.346. The Orange's "B" crew, coxed by Gillian Carlucci, finished 21st in 15:35.651.
Virginia (14:34.417) won the V8 with Yale (14:45.063) and Princeton (14:50.893) finishing second and third, respectively.
In the small boats' racing, which featured 58 total crews between the men and women, Syracuse's double sculls "C" boat of Madison Leitch and Rose Aschebrock was the top finishing women's boat in 17:56.351. They were closely followed by the "A" double sculls crew of McCrudden and Johnston in 18:04.162.
SU's "A" pair of Ludovici and Williams had the third-best women's small boat time of 18:24.843, while the "B" double sculls boat of Tosca Wilson and Caroline Habjan and Yasmine Hemida was fourth-best in 18:26.662 and the "B" pair of Hamilton and Frawley was fifth-fastest in 18:31.851.
Soja had the best women's single sculls time, coming in in 18:53.189.
While the Orange's top crews were at Princeton, SU's third and fourth eights were in action at the Head of the Fish in Saratoga Springs on Saturday. In the JV8+, SU's crew, coxed by Alyssa Vasiliou, placed sixth out of 12 boats in 14:57. In the novice 8+, SU's crew coxed by Olivia Mennilo was ninth out of 28 boats in 15:43.
The Orange will be back in New Jersey next weekend for the inaugural Collegiate Small Boat Sprint Championship in Mercer, N.J.
