Welcome to the ACC
The strength and depth of the new ACC was on display in the season's first coaches' poll with five crews ranking in the top 20 (No. 3 Virginia, No. 8 Notre Dame, No. 18 Clemson, No. 19 Syracuse and No. 20 Duke). Another of the top 20, No. 16 Louisville, will join the conference for next season. The ACC's five ranked teams trailed only the Pac-12 (6) and tied the Ivy League.
Â
Last Time Out
Syracuse women's rowing began its 2014 season in strong fashion on March 15 at Clemson, recording victories in the varsity four and second varsity eight and finishing a close second in the varsity eight.
Â
"To take two of three of the NCAA class boat races is very encouraging for the team," head coach Justin Moore said. "It is definitely a different script from previous years. Our team depth is being built and it's really starting to show."
Â
Racing against crews from the host Tigers, Boston University and Eastern Michigan in the first and second varsity eights, the Orange took second with its first varsity boat and third with its second varsity. Clemson took first in the day's top event by 2.1 seconds, overtaking the Orange, coxed by Katherine Isaza in the final 500 meters of the race after SU battled back from the start to take the lead at the 1,000-meter mark. The Orange 2V8 finished 10.2 seconds off the winning time, ahead of the Tiger's 2V8 by 2.9 ticks, and well ahead of two BU lightweight crews and EMU's V8.
