Four Orange Earn All-ACC Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. -Â In its first Atlantic Coast Conference season, Syracuse field hockey placed four players on All-ACC teams, the conference office announced on Wednesday. Senior Leonie Geyer was named to the first team, while senior Laura Hahnefeldt and sophomores Alyssa Manley and Emma Russell were named to the second team.

Following a 15-2 regular season in which it went 4-2 in its first ACC campaign, the Orange heads into this weekend's ACC Championship as the No. 2 seed where it will face the seventh-seed and host Boston College in quarterfinals on Thursday at 1 p.m. on ESPN3.

It is the third career All-Conference honor for both Geyer and Hahnefeldt. Both were All-BIG EAST first team choices in 2010 and 2012, with Geyer being the conference's only unanimous selection last year. They are the ninth and 10th three-time All-Conference players in program history.Â

It is the first All-Conference honor for Manley and Russell, both sophomores that have established themselves as major contributors in their two seasons in orange.

Geyer and Russell are tied for the team lead in points with 32 each. Geyer leads SU with 12 assists to go with her 10 goals. SHe ranks sixth in the country in assists per game (0.71). Russell is second on the team in both goals and assists with 11 and 10, respectively.

Manley has a total of 16 points on six goals and four assists while serving as one of the main play-makers on the midfield line.

Hahnefeldt has accumulated six assists to go with one goal, though her true value is on the defensive end as one of the top backs in the country.

A total of 23 student-athletes were honored by the conference. All seven of the league's teams are represented on the All-ACC squad, led by six student-athletes from top-ranked Maryland and four each from No. 8 Duke and No. 2 Syracuse. No. 3 North Carolina and No. 4 Virginia both had three honorees, followed by No. 15 Wake Forest with two and No. 11 Boston College with one.
