SYRACUSE – The Syracuse Orange tennis team (3-5, 0-1) defeated Binghamton (2-6, 0-0) 7-0 on Friday night at the Drumlins Tennis Center, sweeping the Bearcats in all three doubles matches and all six singles matches.
"I just thought we played explosive from the very start." said head coach Luke Jensen. "Explosive is the one key that we've been keying on as far as focus, determination, relentless, but how they came out in their game really exploded. Pretty much on all lines."
Sophomores Amanda Rodgers and Komal Safdar finished first, defeating Shea Brodsky and Alexis Tashiro 8-0 on court two, extending their streak to five consecutive doubles victories.
Sophomore Jimena Wu and freshman Sophia Dzulynsky finished minutes later, posting an 8-1 victory on court three. Juniors Maddie Kobelt and Aleah Marrow clinched the doubles point, defeating Agatha Ambrozy and Katherine Medianik 8-4, marking their third straight victory on court one.
The Orange continued its dominance into singles. On court two, Kobelt quickly finished off Kohtz by a score of 6-0, 6-0, for her fourth consecutive singles victory. Rodgers defeated Medianik, 6-2, 6-1 on court one, extending her streak to five straight singles matches.
Marrow trailed Ambrozy 4-1 in the first set, but rallied to win five straight games to win the set and won the match, 6-4, 6-1.
Wu and freshman Brittany Lashway each tallied points for the Orange in their singles matches, winning on courts three and six, respectively. Sophomore Breanna Bachini ended the night with a 7-5, 6-3 victory seven against Jessie Rubin.
Syracuse will remain home this weekend, hosting conference opponent Pittsburgh on Sunday, Feb. 17 at 10 a.m. in the Drumlins Tennis Center.
