The Orange will square off against Harvard in a two-game series slated for Saturday, March 23 at 6 p.m. and Sunday March 24 at noon. SU will also host a high school team camp, which includes local schools participating in small group training sessions and scrimmages throughout the day.
Admission to both events is $5 and fans may enter through gates A, B and C. Parking is also available for $5 in the Carrier Dome west lot. In honor of those who serve and have already served our country, both Saturday and Sunday have been declared Military Night, which will allow all fans with a valid military ID free admission to all contests.
SPRING FLING IN REVIEW:
Syracuse went 4-5 last week in Hawaii, posting a 3-4 record in the Chevron Spring Fling Classic. The Orange opened the week with a loss to Hawaii but rebounded the next day, registering a 3-0 shutout against East Carolina to gain some momentum. SU then opened the tourney with a 3-2 win against Utah before going on a three-game tilt, including a tough one-run loss to No. 4/5 Cal. The Orange entered the final day of competition seeking revenge, taking down Utah first and then upsetting No. 4/5 Cal, 8-1, to advance to the Spring Fling championship game. Despite a 12-inning battle, Syracuse did not emerge with the title, losing to Hawaii in a 3-2 decision.
SCOUTING THE CRIMSON:
Harvard will enter the Dome this weekend looking to shake a two-game losing streak that began with a loss to tournament host San Diego on the final day of the San Diego Classic II. The Crimson posted a 2-3 record in the tournament, moving them to 5-10 overall in 2013.
Two Harvard batters are hitting higher than .300, led by sophomores Katherine Lantz and Andrea Del Conte, who are bothleading the team with 15 hits each. Lantz and junior Kelsey Lange have both cranked a pair of home runs for the Crimson, leading the team with a .511 and .452 slugging clip, respectively.
THIRTEEN AND COUNTING:
Junior Shirley Daniels is a base stealing machine this year as the right fielder is currently leading the BIG EAST with 13 stolen bases. Including Daniels, not a single Orange has been caught this year attempting to steal a base. Together, the team's 22 stolen bases ranks sixth in the league.
UP NEXT:
Next week the Orange will head back out on the road, traveling to Louisville to open the BIG EAST portion of the 2013 schedule.
