SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Over the coming weeks, Syracuse field hockey head coach Ange Bradley is announcing the program's 2013 signing class. Be sure to check back to SUAthletics.com as the Orange, fresh off its 2012 Final Four run, unveils its incoming class one-by-one.
Â
"I am happy to welcome the Class of 2017 to our great university and hockey family here at Syracuse," Bradley said. "They are the first generation of Syracuse Hockey in The ACC. This presents a tremendous opportunity as well as a responsibility to build upon our past. I am excited to see how this group prepares, unites and grows to compete in the best conference in the nation. I look forward to their arrival in August and I am very thrilled to have the opportunity to develop this talented group of student athletes and teach them the Syracuse way."

Degnan started for the Warriors since her freshman season and finished her senior season with 12 goals and eight assists, giving her a career total of 68 goals and 29 assists, the highest totals in school history. She was named Pennsylvania All-State First Team as a senior in 2012.
Â
"I visited Syracuse University for the first time three years ago at a Kai-Zen field hockey camp," Degnan said. "The moment I stepped onto the field, met Coach Bradley and the team, I knew it was where I wanted to be in the future."
Â
Degnan's other honors include being named Wyoming Valley Conference All-Scholastic First Team all four years and Pennsylvania All-State Honorable Mention as a sophomore in 2010.
Â
"Serra is quick, explosive, powerful and a true competitor," Bradley said. "She has great hands and possesses very good skill. She is very quick and scrappy in front of the net. Serra will help us as a high-attacking midfielder as she has great ability to see the pass as well as score the goal."
Â
A four-sport athlete participating in field hockey, softball, basketball and track & field, Degnan was captain of three of teams including field hockey as a senior. She received the most varsity letters of any male or female athlete in the 46-year history of the school district and was named Field Hockey MVP in her junior and senior seasons.
Â
"One of the many things I like about Serra is that she is one of the few high school athletes that continued to be a multi-sport athlete," Bradley said. "While playing these other sports, Serra would work on her own in the off-season. She breaks the mold of today's typical athlete who specializes at a young age. She truly loves and wants to play the game anytime she can. I am very excited to have her on our team as she brings a unique competitive style to our team."Â
Â
A star in the classroom as well, Degnan is a member of the National Honor Society, National Society of High School Scholars, School District Student Ambassador Student Council, Key Club, Future Business Leaders of America and Students Against Drunk Driving.
Â
"Serra is a hard-working, trustworthy student athlete that strives to excel," Wyoming Area head coach, Lunda Comiskey said. "She responds with courage when asked to produce her best. Her passion and motivation for field hockey goes unmatched. I believe she will make a success out of any opportunity that arises. She has displayed the moral character, discipline, organization and commitment necessary to become a successful student athlete at the next level."
Â
Degnan plays her club hockey with the KaPow indoor club in Wilkes-Barre, Pa.
Â
"Serra is really an outstanding field hockey player and has great focus, intensity and aggressiveness," KaPow head coach Kim Barbacci said. "She has very good stick-work and is able to see the entire field and pass to her teammates. Her aggressiveness for goal has led her to many goals this indoor season."
