SU Captures Fifth Place BIG EAST Finish

TAMPA, Fla. – The Syracuse tennis team (15-8) defeated eighth-seeded Marquette (13-13) by a close 4-3 score this afternoon in the final round of the 2013 Women's Tennis BIG EAST Championship. The Orange victory secures a fifth place finish in the conference for SU.
Syracuse rallied from a 1-0 deficit with four singles victories in the 3:37 match, after losing its first doubles point of the tournament.
Brittany Lashway opened the singles competition with a 6-1, 6-1 win on court six, before the Golden Eagles surged ahead with a victory on court five. Sophomore Amanda Rodgers tied the match at two-all, with a point from the No. 1 position.
Shortly after, junior Maddie Koblet lost a tough 6-4, 7-5 decision from the No. 2 slot. Junior Aleah Marrow and sophomore Jimena Wu clinched the match for SU with the final two wins, after both battled through tough three-set matches.
