SYRACUSE, N.Y. -Â A six-run first inning set the tone as DePaul (23-13, 10-1) completed its three-game series sweep of Syracuse (13-20, 1-5), 16-2, in five innings on Sunday at the SU Softball Stadium.

Freshman Danielle Chitkowski had a career day at the plate for the Orange. After entering the game in at second base in the top of the second inning, she went 2-2 with a solo home run and a RBI double for the first multi-hit and multi-RBI game of her collegiate career.

Kirsten Verdun (15-7) allowed two runs on four hits with three strikeouts in five innings of work to earn the victory in the circle. Stacy Kuwik (8-7) took the loss for the Orange, surrendering 10 runs, eight earned, on five hits and four walks in 1 1/3 innings. Freshman Lindsey Larkin pitched 3 2/3 innings of relief, allowing six runs on 11 hits and one walk with one strikeout.

Stacy Bonezek led the Blue Demons at the plate, going 3-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Mary Connolly started the scoring in the top of the first with a three-run home run to give her three runs batted in as well.

DePaul scored six runs on four hits, a walk, a hit batter and an error in the first inning to take control and followed that up with four runs on three hits and three walks in the second to take a 10-0 leading going into the bottom half of the inning.

Batting with one out, Chitkowski drove the 2-1 offering from Verdun over the fence in left-center for her second home run of the season. After the Blue Demons added three runs on in the top of the fourth inning on a two-run since by Bree Brown and a RBI single by Allie Braden, Chitkowski doubled to left-center, driving in Veronica Grant from first base after she had reached on a fielder's choice.

DePaul closed the scoring in the top of the fifth with RBI groundout by Megan Coronado and a two-run homer by Kali Gardner.

Syracuse remains home to host Cornell in a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday at 3 p.m. at the SU Softball Stadium.
