2013Â Field Hockey Schedule
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Games against all three of the other Final Four teams from last season highlight Syracuse field hockey's 2013 schedule, announced by head coach Ange Bradley on Friday. The Orange will play a six-game conference schedule in its inaugural ACC season.
Â
Syracuse's 17-game regular season schedule includes nine home games at J.S. Coyne Stadium. Highlighting the home slate are games against both national finalist teams from 2012, champion Princeton on Sept. 22 and North Carolina on Nov. 2. The game with the Tar Heels will also be Senior Day at Coyne Stadium.
Â
As usual, the Orange will be playing one of the most challenging schedules in the country. Here is how it breaks down:
Â
The Orange opens the season at the Asics Invitational at Hofstra on Aug. 30-Sept. 1. SU plays Quinnipiac in the Friday opener and either Hofstra or La Salle on Sunday to conclude the tournament.
Â
After road games at Michigan State (Sept. 6) and Kent State (Sept. 8), the Orange hosts its home opener at Coyne Stadium on Friday, Sept. 13 at 3 p.m. vs. Massachusetts. Syracuse defeated the Minutewomen in the NCAA Tournament first round, 4-2, avenging its lone loss of the regular season, which came in Amherst, 2-1.
Â
That weekend will be a three-team round-robin as UMass and Ohio State will play on Saturday and the Orange and Buckeyes will meet on Sunday, Sept. 15 at 2 p.m.
Â
SU will play its first ACC game on Sept. 20 at Boston College before returning home on Sunday, Sept. 22 to host National Champion Princeton at 2 p.m. The Orange, then ranked No. 2, defeated the then-No. 3 Tigers, 2-0, at Princeton in a regular season meeting last season.
Â
Syracuse plays its final road non-conference game on Sept. 28 vs. Stanford in Albany, before returning home to host Virginia on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 1 p.m. in SU's first home ACC tilt. The following day, Monmouth comes to town for a 2 p.m. Sunday matinee at Coyne.
Â
ACC road games at Duke (Oct. 11) and Maryland (Oct. 18) sandwich a home non-conference match with New Hampshire on Sunday, Oct. 13, leading up to three games in a row to close the regular season: Saturday, Oct. 26 vs. Wake Forest (1 p.m.); Sunday, Oct. 27 vs. Cornell (2 p.m.); and Saturday, Nov. 2 vs. North Carolina (1 p.m.). The Orange at Tar Heels met twice in 2012, a thrilling 1-0 OT victory for SU at home in the regular season, and a 6-1 UNC win in the Final Four.
Â
The ACC Tournament will be held at Boston College on Nov. 7-10. NCAA first and second round games at campus sites are scheduled for Nov. 16-17, and the Final Four will be played at Old Dominion in Norfolk, Va. on Nov. 22-24.
Â
As always, admission at all Syracuse field hockey regular season home games is free.
