SYRACUSE, N.Y. -Â The Orange will be well represented at 2013 USA Field Hockey National Futures Championship (NFC) with three returning players plus two incoming freshmen all competing. Lauren Brooks, Jess Jecko and Jordan Page will play in the U21 Championship, while freshmen Lindsey Nerbonne and Lizzy Sack will play in the U19 Championship.
Â
The NFC brings together 680 athletes from around the country to compete at an annual tournament held in Norfolk, Va. It consists of U14, U17, U19 and U21 divisions and serves as a program to identify and develop athletes with the potential to represent the USA on the junior and senior national teams.
Â
All of the Syracuse representatives will be competing June 20-25 at Old Dominion University, as the U21 and U19 championships are held simultaneously. Nerbonne is playing for the "Rome" team and Sack is playing for the "Oslo" team. In U21, Brooks and Jecko are playing for the "South" team, while Page is playing for the "West" squad. Bradley is coaching the "Metro" team.
Â
"We're expecting our best Championship yet," said Caitie Tornes Manger of Futures and Olympic Development. "We received a lot of positive feedback when we created an Olympic-themed celebration and we're bringing that same energy to the 2013 venue. It's going to be a lot fun and our staff is truly excited for all of this year's participants."
Â
Syracuse has a long history of players participating in the NFC, including current Orange members Page and Alyssa Manley, who have represented the USA on U17 and U19 national teams, and former All-American Shannon Taylor, who plays on the Senior Women's National Team and played in the 2012 London Olympics.
