Orange Adds All-American Transfer

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -Â Syracuse field hockey head coach Ange Bradley has announced the addition of Kati Nearhouse to the Orange roster. A transfer from Old Dominion, Nearhouse will practice with the team in 2013 and be eligible to play in games in 2014.

"Kati is a leader, a competitor and a real risk-taker," Bradley said. "I'm so happy she is going to be with us the next two years. She is going to be a real game-changer for us in the future."

A native of Nanticoke, Pa., Nearhouse comes to SU after three successful seasons at Old Dominion where she was named an NFHCA All-American in 2011 and WomensFieldHockey.com All-American in 2011 and 2012. The forward has accounted for 29 points on 11 goals and seven assists in her career.

"I have always respected Ange Bradley as a coach, so to finally get the opportunity to play for her is a real honor," Nearhouse said. "Syracuse is always a hard-working and competitive team. I can't wait to help the program compete for a championship any way I can."

Nearhouse had six points on two goals and two assists as a junior with the Monarchs last season. A starter in all 18 games, she was named All-CAA First Team, NFHCA All-South Region First Team and WomensFieldHockey.com Second Team All-American. Nearhouse's goals came against No. Penn State and she tallied the game-winner vs. Radford.

Nearhouse earned NFHCA Second Team All-America, WomensFieldHockey.com Third Team All-America, All-CAA Second Team and All-CAA Tournament Team honors in 2011 after recording 21 points on eight goals and five assists. Four of her eight goals were game-winners, including in double-overtime at No. 6 Duke.

Nearhouse was named to the CAA All-Rookie team as a freshman in 2010 when she saw action in 23 of 24 games and scored one goal.

Long a part of the USA Field Hockey system, Nearhouse played with the U.S. Junior National Team at the Youth Olympic Festival in Australia in January 2013. She was named to the U21 national squad after performing well for the Mid-Atlantic team at the Junior High Performance camp at the National Training Center in Virginia Beach in 2012.

A three-sport star at Greater Nanticoke Area High School, Nearhouse was an honorable mention All-State performer as a senior in field hockey while also competing in soccer and track.
