SU Defeats Guelph, 3-1 In Pre-Season Contest

SYRACUSE, N.Y.—The Syracuse ice hockey team defeated the University of Guelph 3-1 in an exhibition game held at Tennity Ice Pavilion. The Orange season opener is on Friday, October 4 at Northeastern in Matthews Arena.

Syracuse scored the first two goals of the game, the first from Sadie St. Germain, who deflected in a shot in front of the goal set up by Akane Hosoyamada with 10:35 remaining in the first period.

Freshman forward Elizabeth Scala had the second score when she directed a pass from Cara Johnson into the net with 9:30 to go in the second period, which would ultimately be the game-winning goal.

The Gryphons took away the shut out off a breakaway shot by Amanda Parkins who skated up the left side and got one past Jenesica Drinkwater late in the second stanza.

Nicole Ferrara had the last say in the game, giving SU a two point lead with 3:51 to go in the second period that would not be answered.

All three Orange goalies saw action in the contest, splitting equal minutes throughout the game.
