SYRACUSE, N.Y.—The SU ice hockey team opens its season this weekend with a pair of games at Northeastern and New Hampshire. The Orange travels to Boston, Mass. for its season opener against the Huskies at 7 p.m. and then heads up to Durham, N.H. to take on the Wildcats at 2 p.m.
This is the third season Syracuse has opened its season against these two opponents and fourth season both have been included on the schedule. The Orange has matched up against UNH since 2009.

SEASON OUTLOOK
• Syracuse enters the 2013-14 season in similar fashion to last season, taking on Northeastern and New Hampshire in the first two games of the season, this time on the road.
• The Orange plays five of its first six games away from Tennity Ice Pavilion. SU hosts Clarkson in the third game of the season before going on a three-game road trip.
• SU hosts four teams that advanced to the 2013 NCAA tournament this season, welcoming Cornell, Clarkson, Boston College and CHA foe Mercyhurst to Syracuse.
• Syracuse plays five nationally ranked teams this season. No. 2 Boston College, No. 3 Clarkson, No. 6/4 Cornell, No. 8/7 Mercyhurst and No. 10 Northeastern are all on the agenda for the Orange.
• The Orange will play three home games at the War Memorial, facing Cornell, Colgate and St. Lawrence in the home arena of the Syracuse Crunch (AHL).

PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT
• The Orange started its season with an exhibition game against the University of Guelph on Friday, Sept. 27. SU came away with a 3-1 victory to bolster team confidence going into the first regular season game at No. 10 Northeastern.
• Freshman Elizabeth Scala scored the game-winning goal and Sadie St. Germain and Nicole Ferrara each contributed a goal in the win.
• Kallie Billadeau, Jenesica Drinkwater and Julie Bengis split equal minutes in net for the Orange.

2012-13 REVIEW
• SU enters this year coming off the best season in program history.
• Last year the Orange finished 20-15-1 and 13-6-1 in the CAA, the first season SU had winning records both in conference and overall.

SCOUTING NORTHEASTERN
• The Huskies finished the 2012-13 season with a 23-11-2 record, 13-7-1 in conference (WHEA). Northeastern lost to Boston University in the Hockey East Championship game.
• NU won its first contest of the year, an exhibition against McGill.
• Northeastern was ranked 10th in both the USCHO.com and the USA Today preseason polls. The Huskies finished last season in the same place on both polls, but goes into Friday's game receiving votes in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll.Â
• NU loses its top three point scorers from last season, including Kendall Coyne, who scored 37 goals and tallied 31 assists last season.
• Kelly Wallace is the leading returner, coming of a 28-point season (16g, 12a).
• Goaltender Chloe Desjardins, who posted a 21-9-2 record and a .913 save percentage last year, returns for her junior season.

SCOUTING NEW HAMPSHIRE
• The Wildcats finished 14-16-4 in 2012-13 and 10-8-3 in Hockey East, which qualified for the WHEA tournament. UNH lost to Providence in the quarterfinals 5-4 in overtime.
• New Hampshire has already started its regular season, splitting with St. Lawrence. The Wildcats dropped the first game of the series with the Saints, 4-2 but came back to win the next contest 2-1.
• UNH returns its second-leading point scorer from 2012-13, Alexis Crossley. Crossley scored 7 goals and notched 16 assists last year, giving her three fewer points than Kristina Lavoie, who graduated after last season.
• The Wildcats return all of their goalies from last season including sophomore Jenn Gilligan, who posted a 10-5-3 record in 2012-13 and a .909 save percentage.

ORANGE RETURNERS
• The Orange returns seven of its top 10 scorers including Margot Scharfe, who scored the second most goals last season.
• Akane Hosoyamada, the CHA Best Defenseman of 2012-13, returns for her final season after posting four goals and 12 assists last season.
• Senior Kallie Billadeau will be in net again this year. She recorded a 16-9-0 record in 2012-13 and a .940 save percentage, the best in the CHA. She also recorded a 1.56 GAA, the second best in the CHA by .01 points.
• Syracuse also has a solid secondary goalie in Jenesica Drinkwater, who posted a 4-6-1 record last season and a .890 save percentage.
•Defender Kaillie Goonough returns after scoring 12 assists and two goals last season.

SYRACUSE BOASTS EIGHT NEWCOMERS
• The Orange have added eight freshmen to the roster this season including six forwards and two defensemen.
• Elizabeth Scala played for the National Sports Academy prior to Syracuse, which was also the last school for junior Kaillie Goodnough and senior Brittney Krebs.
• Jessica Sibley comes to Syracuse from senior Akane Hosoyamada's alma mater the Warner Hockey School.

2013-14 CAPTAINS
• Senior Margot Scharfe will serve as a captain for the second straight season. Her guidance last year helped SU record the best season since the program's inception in 2008. She recorded 11 goals and 11 assists and was named the CHA Best Defensive Forward in 2012-13.
• Senior defender Brittney Krebs was named the co-captain for the 2013-14 season. She tallied 12 assists and one goal last season and was named to the CHA All-tournament team.
