EAST LANSING, Mich. -Â Junior forward Lauren Brooks scored three goals to lead No. 5 Syracuse field hockey (4-0) to a 6-2 victory vs. Kent State at Michigan State's Ralph Young Field. Sarah Kerly, Lindsey Nerbonne and Tayler Evans all scored their first goals for the Orange in the win.

Brooks' hat trick, the first of her career, gives the Lancaster, Pa. native a team-leading six on the season and 20 for her career. It is the most goals in a game by a Syracuse player since Leonie Geyer scored four and Heather Susek had three goals in a 12-0 win vs. Vermont on Oct. 16, 2011.

The Golden Flashes took the early 1-0 lead just 4:41 into the contest when Karleigh Carlin scored from four yards out, but head coach Ange Bradley's Orange would go on to score five in a row to take control and put the game out of reach.

Brooks put SU on the board in the 29th minute with a fantastic diving effort off an Emma Russell pass to tie the game, 1-1. The assist was the sophomore Russell's third of the season.

After the game went into halftime tied, 1-1, the Orange took control early in the second half with three goals in a 7:15 span. Kerly gave Syracuse the lead in the 42nd minute when the graduate student from England scored her first SU goal, converting a diving shot at close range off an Alyssa Manley pass. Just over a minute later, Brooks scored her second goal off a Geyer assist, making it 3-1. Brooks then completed the hat trick in the 49th minute when she scored off another Manley assist to make it 4-1.

Geyer's assist on Brooks' second goal was her team-best sixth of the season and moved the senior from Neuss, Germany into a tie with Shelley Magee (1990-93) for third all-time at Syracuse with 35 assists in her career.

Nerbonne made it a 5-1 game in the 54th minute when the freshman back from Bow, N.H. scored the first goal of her career of the first career assist by freshman Kat Huber.

After Kent State scored its second goal in the 58th minute by Sabrina Binder, Evans scored the first goal of her SU career in the 59th minute when the freshman from Australia found the back of the net off a deflection, closing the scoring at 6-2.

Jess Jecko made two saves in goal for the Orange as the sophomore improved to 4-0 on the season.

Syracuse finished the game with a 24-8 shot advantage and a 5-2 edge in penalty corners.
