
SU Finishes Competition at Cornell, BU

The Syracuse track and field team finished competition at two meets yesterday, the Upstate Challenge hosted by Cornell and the Terrier Invitational hosted by Boston University. At the Upstate Challenge, the men's team finished in third place with a score of 79 points while the women took fourth with 66 points. SU did not have a team score at the Terrier Invitational.

At the Terrier Invitational, Jaquan Holland matched his own school-record performance in the 200-meter dash, finishing in third place in 21.09 seconds, which ranks 16th in the NCAA. Bria Goodson finished in fourth place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.26 seconds and Rebecca Robinson was close behind in seventh place (24.50), both times meeting ACC and ECAC standards. Robinson also finished in fifth place in the 400-meter dash in 55.32 seconds, also an ACC and ECAC qualifying mark.

In Ithaca at the Upstate Challenge, Donald Pollitt won the 60 meter hurdles competition, finishing with a time of 7.86 seconds. Darren McCluskey finished in fifth place in the event.

Syracuse swept the top six places in the men's mile run, with Max Straneva taking the top spot and finishing in 4:12.09. Kevyn Hoyos, Robert Molke, Joseph Kush, Dan Lennon and Juris Silenieks rounded out the top six, all finishing fast enough to qualify for the IC4A meet.

Shaina Harrison and Sabrina Cammock took first and second in the women's 60-meter dash. Harrison finished with a time of 7.46, which ranks 39th in the NCAA.

Margo Malone finished in first place in the mile run with a personal-best time of 4:53.90, which qualifies her for the ECAC meet. Sarah Pagano finished behind her in second place in 4:55.42, also meeting the ECAC standard.

Regine Hunter won the women's triple jump competition with a leap of 12.33 meters, which qualifies for the ACC and ECAC meets. Franklin Taylor finished in second place in the men's long jump with a distance of 7.33 meters to qualify for the IC4A and ACC championships.

Joel Hubbard took first in the men's 1000 meter in 2:29.92 and finished in fourth in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:55.53. Ryan Urie finished ahead of him in the 800, taking third with an IC4A qualifying run of 1:54.50.

Sydney Leiher qualified for ECACs with her second place finish in the 1000 meter run (2:52.81).

The team is back in action next weekend at the Penn State National Invitational on Friday, Jan. 31 and Saturday, Feb. 1.
