SYRACUSE, N.Y. - With their move to the Atlantic Coast Conference, the 2014 tennis season will feature some of the stiffest competition Syracuse has seen in program history, highlighted by 11 teams coming off NCAA Tournament appearances in 2013.
"Something big is on the way. Our time has come to begin a great new challenge." head coach Luke Jensen said of the move to the Atlantic Coast Conference. "The ACC is loaded with fierce competition and dedicated teams - all dedicated to win national titles. There are no easy wins in those waters."
The Orange's schedule features nine teams that begin the 2014 season ranked in the top-25. Of the 19 teams Syracuse will face, an astounding 16 of them are ranked in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's top-75 in the first poll of the new year.
"I am so excited for my extraordinary student athletes." added Jensen. "We will be playing teams that we could never schedule before. I am so proud of all their hard work to prepare themselves for the ACC fight."
SU begins the season with seven matches on the road, including its first weekend as a member of the ACC at NC State and 2009 National Champion Duke. Following the road trip, the Orange returns to campus for a three-game stretch with the home-opener against Virginia Tech, plus matches with Virginia and Florida State.
After a stop in Miami against the ACC defending champs, Syracuse hosts former BIG EAST rival Boston College and 2013 NCAA Quarterfinalist and ACC regular season champion North Carolina for a pair of contests at Drumlins.
The Orange hits the road for four more conference matches before wrapping up with Wake Forest and Notre Dame at home.
Syracuse's first go-around in the ACC Tournament will take place from April 23 – 27 at Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C.
