Orange to play in Jason's Deli Collegiate Invitational
The Syracuse tennis team will return to action on Friday for its third collegiate event of the fall season, when the Orange head to Houston, Texas on Friday to compete in Jason's Deli Collegiate Invitational.
Six members of the Orange will be competing this weekend in both doubles and singles in a round-robin format.
12 different schools will be competing in the event, including Kansas, Kansas State, Lamar, Northwestern State, Oklahoma, Rice, Sam Houston State, SMU, TCU and Tyler Junior College in addition to 'Cuse.
This weekend's doubles pairings will feature Valeria Salazar and Amanda Rodgers, Rhiann Newborn and Komal Safdar and Olivia Messineo and Nicole Mitchell playing together.
The doubles pairings are all new to the Orange this fall. Safdar had previously played with Salazar at the Army Invitational – an event the pair won – and Salazar in the ITA Northeast Regional, where they made the quarterfinals.
Newborn and Rodgers also played together at the ITA Northeast Regional and won their first-two matches before falling in the round of 16.
The Orange duos will play a doubles match each morning at 9 a.m. before getting singles play underway each day at 10 a.m., with each player playing one doubles and one singles match per day.
The event kicks off on Friday at 9 a.m. and will conclude after Sunday's singles matches.
