PRINCETON, N.J. – The Syracuse field hockey team put in an impressive performance on Saturday in exhibition action at Princeton, winning all four of its games by a combined score of 10-1. The Orange faced the host Tigers, Bucknell, Rutgers and Temple in a series of 25-minute games at Bedford Field.
"It was a very solid performance on both the attacking and defending sides," head coach Ange Bradley said. "I am happy with the team's ability to sustain a high standard of play with no subs. Out counter attack was much improved since last week."
After placing an emphasis on defense leading up to last weekend's strong performance in exhibition games at Boston College, the Orange turned more attention to the offensive end of the field this week with positive results.
"Today gave us the opportunity to combine everything we have been working on in practice and use it in our play," forward Lauren Brooks said. "We managed to improve our offense in our attacking third and continued to be consistent with our defense."
"I felt like we stayed much more composed than last weekend in pressure situations," midfielder Alyssa Manley said. "As a team, we moved the ball a lot more smoothly and with better decision-making. All around it was a much better effort and we showed more confidence."
The spring competition against top-level programs gives Syracuse an opportunity to develop its skills and work on concepts in advance of the fall season.
"Thanks to Princeton for hosting a quality tournament," Bradley said.
The Orange returns home to host its own tournament at J.S. Coyne Stadium on Saturday, April 19. Be sure to check Cuse.com this coming week for details.
