SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Though field hockey is labeled a fall sport, the spring is an invaluable time of the year for the Syracuse field hockey program. Head Coach Ange Bradley's Orange are now in the middle of their spring exhibition season, an opportunity for its returning student-athletes to hone their skills and master concepts for the upcoming campaign.
Last weekend, Syracuse went to Boston for a series of 30-minute games against five of the other top program's in the Northeast: Boston College, Boston University, Massachusetts, Northeastern and Providence. The day was a success as the Orange showed steady improvement throughtout the five games with defense being the primary focus.
This coming weekend, the Orange heads to Princeton on Saturday to face the Tigers, Bucknell and Rutgers. As sophomore forward Emma Russell and freshman goalie Rebecca Congel state in the above video, the 'Cuse will continue to work on its skills and turn more attention to the offense in New Jersey.
Watch the full video above for their recap of the weekend, a preview of this coming weekend, and how they feel the spring season benefits them.
Syracuse is coming off a 16-4 season in 2013, including a 4-2 record in its first ACC campaign. The Orange made its sixth-straight NCAA Tournament and finished ranked No. 2 in the final NFHCA coaches poll.
